FAQ

What is a Rush?
Put simply, rush is the process by which Greek organizations recruit new members. Rush usually takes place during two weeks each Fall and Spring, when a number of different recruitment activities are planned around a fixed schedule. Sigma Theta Pi also holds Continuous Rush, or After Rush named, which just means that we are always looking for outstanding gentlemen to join our chapter, at any time during the year (under special conditions).
What happens when I join a Fraternity? Is it like in the movies?
« Animal House » and more recently, « Old School » and « Beta House » were very funny movies, but they were extremely bad for the image of fraternities. Furthermore, some inferior fraternities have actually tried to live up to the poor image that these movies promoted, in the hope that this will attract college students to join. Sigma Theta Pi is not one of these fraternity, and we are actively working to restore the reputation of greek organizations among members of the public.
The typical ‘frat-boy’ image that Hollywood has put in our minds has no place in STPi. Occasionally we too enjoy a drink or two, however we are Gentlemen and strive to keep that image. We also have a no hazing policy into our Constitution, who oblige every chapter to respect laws of United States, Canada and France in the same time.
When you join Sigma Theta Pi, you will never be hazed, mistreated, embarrassed, perform meaningless tasks, or in any other way be treated as anything less than a Friend and Brother.
Do you have requirements to join?
Yes, we have a few requirements:
GPA: Incoming freshman must have a GPA of 2.3 (11/20 for European system) or greater to be considered for membership. Current college students also must have a 2.5 college GPA. Once a member you must not fall below a 2.1 GPA to avoid jeopardizing membership.
Leadership: You must have demonstrated evidence of your leadership abilities. This can be in the form of an community service, sports clubs, or anything else that you feel can demonstrate your ability to become one of the future leaders of our fraternity.
Why should I join STPi?
You should join because you want to. Past members have joined for a number of reasons including but not limited to: charity work, business opportunities, active social life, personal wellness and development, networking, and a fine fraternal experience.
What kind of commitment are we talking about?
Like anything else worth doing, you only get out what you put in. Men that aren’t willing to take responsibility for themselves as well as others will not be asked to join Sigma Theta Pi. During the associate period, the formal time commitment is no more than three hours a week; however, we expect that anyone interested in becoming a part of Sigma Theta Pi would demonstrate his interest by coming to our events and doing the pledging session. Furthermore, the financial viability of the chapter depends on every man fulfilling his financial responsibility to the chapter so that the chapter has insurance to put on our events every year.
